A Fair Recruitment Process: Sandviken’s Course Leads the Way

Recruiting the right individual is one of the most critical undertakings for building strong and sustainable organisations. Yet, recruitment is also a complex endeavour, requiring clear criteria, a structured process, and the appropriate tools to ensure decisions are made impartially. Sandviken Municipality has been working diligently on this front, with the aim of fostering fair, inclusive, and precise recruitment practices.

Competency-based recruitment is a method that evaluates candidates based on their actual competencies—namely, the skills, knowledge, and attributes needed to thrive in a specific role. By employing clear requirement profiles and objective selection criteria, this approach ensures a more equitable and accurate recruitment process, free from bias related to gender, age, or background. It provides a structured and impartial method for organisations to identify the right person for the right role.

Sandviken Municipality has fully embraced these principles, developing a comprehensive course designed to support competency-based recruitment practices. This course equips hiring managers and HR professionals with the tools and expertise needed to approach recruitment in a structured and objective manner. It guides participants through every stage of the process, from defining needs and crafting requirement profiles to conducting structured interviews and creating a positive candidate experience. The ultimate goal is to enable fair and well-informed hiring decisions.

The course is built upon the foundations of competency-based recruitment and combines educational content with practical step-by-step guides using the Visma Recruit tool. Participants are trained to utilise the system effectively across all stages of the recruitment process. This makes the course an invaluable resource for both day-to-day operations and long-term recruitment strategies.

A particularly noteworthy aspect of the course is its interactive format, which incorporates reflection questions, knowledge tests, and practical exercises. These elements create a more engaging learning experience, allowing participants to actively practise the application of competency-based methods in real-world scenarios.

Through this initiative, Sandviken Municipality has made significant progress in an area that directly impacts both organisational success and the fair assessment of individuals. This meticulously developed course demonstrates how theory, practical application, and system support can seamlessly integrate to enhance recruitment processes and deliver long-term benefits. Sandviken’s efforts are a powerful reminder that recruitment is not solely about finding the right candidate; it is also a pivotal tool for fostering inclusive and equitable workplaces. Well done, Sandviken, and congratulations on receiving the “Guide of the Month” award!

Sandvikens
municipality receives the Guide of the Month award.

Every month we at InfoCaption appoint the Guide of the Month - a guide that we want to highlight a little extra because of the value it creates in the organization. As a thank you to the person(s) who created the Guide of the Month, we donate SEK 1,000 to the organization Hand in Hand Sweden, which fights poverty by creating more jobs in vulnerable countries. Hand in Hand works with the "help to self-help" model, which aligns with InfoCaption's mission "to make it easier for employees to help each other".
